rooted in nature
artist Statement
My watercolor practice is rooted in the balance between structure and atmosphere. I begin many pieces with intentional under washes guided by color theory, using layered transparent hues to establish depth and movement.
I often study anatomical details of coastal life to honor the integrity and presence of each subject. Gesture, proportion and structure are all very important to me, even when rendered softly.
My work is guided by observation, intuition, and restraint. I seek to create paintings that feel both grounded and scintillating or lively.
